In this paper, X-band COSMO-SkyMed© synthetic aperture radar (SAR) wind field data are first used to force coastal wind wave modeling for both sea wave numerical\udsimulation and coastal vulnerability assessment purposes.\udThe SAR-based wind field retrieval is accomplished\udby resolving the SAR-based wind speed and wind direction\udretrieval problems independently. The sea surface wind\udspeed is retrieved through the azimuth cut-off procedure, and\udthe sea surface wind direction is determined by the multiresolution\udanalysis of the discrete wavelet transform. The\udwind wave modeling is based on the third-generation Simulating\udWAves Nearshore (SWAN) model, which is used for\udsea wave state estimation in coastal and inland regions. The\udcoastal vulnerability assessment is provided by means of a\udkey parameter, known as impact index, which evaluates the\udcoastal risk due to the inundation of the inshore land. Experiments\udconsist of SWAN numerical simulations run with respect\udto some relevant wave storms recorded in the southern\udTyrrhenian Sea on 2010, with applications in coastal vulnerability\udassessment along the Sele coastal plain. Experimental\udresults show the benefits of blended wind field products,\udprovided by European Centre for Medium Weather Forecast\ud(ECMWF) model winds and SAR-based wind field estimations,\udfor both wind wave modeling and coastal vulnerability\udassessment purposes.
